It\u2019s 2022 \u2013 but the debate as to whether or not women should be allowed to\u00a0breastfeed\u00a0openly in public places continues to rage.<\/p>\n

That said, I think we can all agree that it\u2019s not easy for mothers to cover up during the summertime.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s simply too hot for both mom and child. When a little one is hungry, it\u2019s important for women to feel comfortable enough to feed where they can.<\/p>\n

Breastfeeding is a natural and beautiful act. For many moms, it\u2019s a key part of raising a child to be big and strong and giving him or her the right nutrients. It\u2019s also a way to bond with the child.<\/p>\n

Whatever your stance is on public breastfeeding, the reality is that a mom can decide to nurse in public anytime, anywhere. Some people are unbothered by it, while others sense some discomfort at the sight.<\/p>\n

When Melanie Dudley, mom of a newborn, was told to cover up by a stranger at a restaurant,\u00a0she reacted in a way\u00a0that\u2019s being hailed by thousands of mothers (and others) around the world.<\/p>\n

Back in 2018, Melanie Dudley was sitting in an 86-degree restaurant with her three-month-old son and a few friends when her baby suddenly decided it was lunchtime.<\/p>\n

Melanie, a native of Texas and a new mom, carefully took out her nipple so that her son could begin breastfeeding without everything else being on display. Only, a man at a nearby table wasn\u2019t comfortable with what she was doing anyway.<\/p>\n

Melanie responds<\/h3>\n

The stranger approached Melanie and asked her to cover up. Melanie agreed to cover herself, just not in the manner the man was expecting.<\/p>\n

\u201dI was on vacation in Cabo San Lucas with my entire family, and a man asked me to cover myself. I\u2019m usually discreet but we were seated in the back of the restaurant,\u201d Melanie told\u00a0Yahoo.<\/p>\n

A friend\u2019s daughter-in-law was told to \u201ccover up\u201d while feeding her baby, so she did!\"\ud83e\udd23\"\u00a0I\u2019ve never met her, but I think\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cI did have the cover on, but it was so hot. It was like, 95 degrees, and my little baby was sweating,\u201d the\u00a0Texan told TODAY.<\/p>\n

\u201cI said, \u2018You know what? I\u2019m on vacation, I\u2019m taking this off.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Melanie couldn\u2019t see the problem, but the man in question did. So, Melanie responded by putting the cover over her head, instead, which left the restaurant in fits of laughter.<\/p>\n

\u201dI just put it over my head. I don\u2019t know why. It wasn\u2019t like a salacious fight or anything. That was just my response. I had no words, so I thought, I\u2019ll just cover my head instead,\u201d the woman\u00a0explained.<\/p>\n

Another woman took a photo of Melanie and uploaded it to her Facebook. The resulting post quickly garnered plenty of attention and has now been shared over 225,000 times.<\/p>\n

Melanie\u2019s picture got a lot of attention, and many praised her for the courage to publish it. Of course, she wasn\u2019t the first woman to be criticized for breastfeeding in public, but Melanie\u2019s creative response made the picture go viral, and the discussion flared up in a way that caused significant news agencies to cover the topic.<\/p>\n

Even though the event took place in 2018, there are still people who comment on the post, and it continues to stir emotions. It only shows that the debate about breastfeeding is still relevant.<\/p>\n
