A baby born at just 23 weeks with only a 20% chance of survival has now officially been discharged from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), marking an incredible milestone.<\/p>\n

Levi Rice, now 2 years old, entered the world extremely prematurely after his mother, Mary Arthur, went into early labor. She and her husband, Lamont Rice, rushed to the hospital, where Levi was delivered via emergency C-section.<\/p>\n

Mary recalls the overwhelming moment she first saw her son, recognizing how critical his condition was. Doctors warned that the first 24 hours would be crucial, but assured the family they would do everything possible to save him.<\/p>\n

At birth, Levi showed no heart rate and required immediate resuscitation. Medical staff worked quickly to stabilize him, placing him on a breathing tube before transferring him to intensive care. Classified as a micropreemie, he faced numerous complications, including underdeveloped organs, multiple surgeries, and even a moment when his heart stopped.<\/p>\n

Despite these challenges, Levi\u2019s care team remained committed. His parents remember the terrifying experience of watching him flatline, followed by relief when doctors restored his heartbeat\u2014something he has maintained ever since.<\/p>\n

Throughout his long stay, the medical team celebrated every small victory, from his first movements to his first smile. After more than six months in the NICU, Levi was finally able to go home.<\/p>\n

Since then, he has made remarkable progress. Described as resilient and strong, he has developed quickly, even reaching milestones ahead of expectations.<\/p>\n

Now officially discharged from NICU care, Levi not only leaves behind his early struggles but also carries with him deep bonds formed with the medical team, who continue to see themselves as part of his extended family.<\/p>\n
