Divorce rumors surrounding Michelle and Barack Obama have been swirling for some time, and the former First Lady\u2019s increasing solo ventures \u2013 including her podcast, her books, and her massive speaking tour \u2013 have only added to the whispers.<\/p>\n
The speculation hit overdrive earlier this year when Michelle was noticeably absent from key public events \u2013 including President Donald Trump\u2019s second inauguration and the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter \u2013 prompting fans and pundits to wonder what was happening behind the scenes.<\/p>\n

Therapy
\nAdding more fuel to the fire, the 61-year-old author revealed in early May that she\u2019s returned to therapy, citing the emotional weight of change after spending eight high-pressure years in the White House.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt this phase of my life, I\u2019m in therapy right now because I\u2019m transitioning,\u201d Michelle told Jay Shetty during an appearance on his On Purpose podcast. \u201cI\u2019ve finished a really hard thing in my life with my family intact.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m an empty nester. Now for the first time, as I\u2019ve said before, every choice that I\u2019m making is completely mine now. I don\u2019t have the excuse of, \u2018Well, my kids need this, or my husband needs that, or the country needs that.\u2019 So, how do I think about this next phase?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u2018I can be loose\u2019
\nAbout one week later, Michelle appeared on Amy Poehler\u2019s podcast, Good Hang, and told the comedian since moving out of the White House, she feels \u201clike there\u2019s room to breathe.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to try to do normal things\u2026I want to feel like I\u2019m by myself,\u201d Michelle told the comedian, adding that she\u2019s \u201cdriving a little bit more by myself\u2026in the car by myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs first lady\u2026 the eight years, even beyond, the stakes were so high. And Barack and I, our team, we felt like we didn\u2019t have room to get anything wrong. And in (this podcast), I can be loose. I can stutter. I can misspeak sometimes, even though I\u2019m sure that will make the news.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Do not touch\u2019
\nMichelle, who met her husband in 1988 while working at a Chicago law firm, did not hold back when discussing her biggest \u201cbattle\u201d with the 44th President of the United States.<\/p>\n
Not afraid to poke fun at some relatable marital squabbles, the former First Lady explained that it happens every night in the bedroom.<\/p>\n
\u201cSometimes I get in the bed and I\u2019m freezing and other times it\u2019s like \u2018Oh my god take my skin off,\u201d said the author of the bestselling book, \u201cBecoming.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a battle with a partner,\u201d Michelle told Poehler, explaining that temperature is important at \u201cthat stage.\u201d \u201c[Barack] is always cold and I\u2019m like \u2018do not touch.\u2019 And sometimes I\u2019ll wake up hot and I\u2019ll wake him up, \u2018did you touch the thermostat? You touched the thermostat, didn\u2019t you?\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd he\u2019s like, \u2018I didn\u2019t I swear to God,\u2019\u201d she explains, jokingly mimicking her husband by throwing her hands up in defence. \u201cHe now knows. He\u2019s afraid of the thermostat.\u201d<\/p>\n
She adds that she tells her husband, \u201cI don\u2019t care what you do do not touch anything in this room after I [go to sleep].\u201d<\/p>\n
Addresses rumors
\nResponding to the ongoing buzz during a May 1 episode of The Diary of a CEO podcast with host Steven Bartlett, the Princeton and Harvard grad shot down rumors she was splitting from Barack.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it,\u201d she said. \u201cI would be problem solving in public,\u201d adding, \u201cI\u2019m not a martyr.\u201d<\/p>\n
