Princess Diana\u2019s former chauffeur has spoken out for the first time in decades and has made the bold claim that she would still be here today if he was driving that night.<\/p>\n

The mystery and intrigue surrounding her death is still a hot topic 27 years on, as people still think about what really happened on that fateful day in Paris.<\/p>\n

Just 36 at the time of her death, the Princess of Wales died from the injuries that she sustained in the early hours on 31 August, 1997.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Royal Family\u00a0member was\u00a0travelling\u00a0in a\u00a0car\u00a0with boyfriend,\u00a0filmmaker\u00a0Dodi Fayed, along with Diana\u2019s driver, Henri Paul, and Fayed\u2019s bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones in Paris in the early hours of the morning.<\/p>\n

As the car was chased by nine journalists through the Pont de l\u2019Alma underpass, something went horribly wrong.<\/p>\n

It was reported that Paul lost control of the car, crashing into a column in the underpass, killing himself and Fayed instantly, while Diana and Rees-Jones were left critically injured.<\/p>\n

Firefighters arrived at the scene with emergency services to attempt to recover those injured and transfer them to\u00a0hospital, where Diana\u2019s last words, \u2018Oh my God, what\u2019s happened?\u2019 were\u00a0heard by a firefighter.<\/p>\n

Sadly, the former\u00a0British\u00a0Princess died at 4am in hospital.<\/p>\n

But now, Princess Diana\u2019s former chauffeur has spoken out about the tragic event, saying: \u201cI\u2019d have taken a bullet for Diana. My job was my life.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was always there for her. I went from having the dream job to having to start again from scratch.\u201d<\/p>\n

He later claimed: \u201cAll I know is that if life had taken a different \u00adtrajectory, if I\u2019d been driving her that night in Paris, she would still be here today\u2026 because I would\u2019ve kept her safe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Steve revealed that he \u2018cannot put into words\u2019 the grief he felt when Princess Diana \u2018was killed\u2019.<\/p>\n

A former member of the army, he also explained how he was \u2018forced out\u2019 of his job, being made redundant after eight years.<\/p>\n

Having long wondered why, it took him watching\u00a0Netflix\u2019s\u00a0The Crown<\/em>\u00a0series to find out what happened.<\/p>\n

Apparently, journalist Martin Bashir had spread lies about the driver, to try and win Diana\u2019s trust prior to his controversial Panorama interview with her.<\/p>\n

He told her that Steve had leaked information about her to the press.<\/p>\n

Luckily, in May this year, Steve received compensation after Bashir\u2019s false allegations.<\/p>\n

Still unhappy, Steve stated: \u201cIn essence he told her I was a traitor, when all along the treachery was his.\u201d<\/p>\n

Princess Diana died from injuries sustained from a car crash in Paris\u2019 Pont de l\u2019Alma tunnel on 31 August 1997<\/h2>\n

A firefighter who attended the Paris tunnel where Princess Diana suffered a fatal car crash has revealed what may have been her final words.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s been 28 years since the\u00a0Princess of Wales, her boyfriend Dodi Fayed, and security chief Henri Paul\u00a0died in a car crash\u00a0in the Pont de l\u2019Alma tunnel in 1997.<\/p>\n

Reports suggest that Paul was driving a Mercedes-Benz S280 at high speed while a total of nine journalists were chasing them down.<\/p>\n

Paul reportedly lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a column in the underpass, which killed him and Fayed instantly.<\/p>\n

Diana and Fayed\u2019s bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, was left severely injured as firefighters attended the scene with emergency services.<\/p>\n

On the 20th anniversary of her death, French firefighter Xavier Gourmelon\u00a0told\u00a0Good Morning Britain\u00a0what she said to him.<\/p>\n

Upon arrival, he said no one was aware who had been involved in the crash, and he couldn\u2019t recognise Diana.<\/p>\n

Gourmelon said: \u201cShe looked at me and said, \u2018Oh my God, what\u2019s happened?\u2019\u201d.<\/p>\n

He claims she looked \u2018agitated\u2019 in the car wreck before losing consciousness yet again.<\/p>\n

\u201cI tried to calm her down and tell her we\u2019d look after her, and she fell into a coma again,\u201d he revealed.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt that moment, the doctor said she was in cardiac arrest.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, we gave her CPR, and after 20 seconds, she regained consciousness, and we transferred her to the ambulance.\u201d<\/p>\n

The firefighter said that after she was taken to the Piti\u00e9-Salp\u00eatri\u00e8re Hospital in Paris, he expected her to make a full recovery, as he could only see the injuries to her shoulders and didn\u2019t see any blood on her.<\/p>\n

Sadly, Diana died from another cardiac arrest at around 4.00am, as doctors were unable to resuscitate her.<\/p>\n

Fayed\u2019s bodyguard, Trevor Rees-Jones, sustained severe injuries but survived the crash.<\/p>\n

A French investigation concluded that Paul was intoxicated and driving recklessly, which led to the crash.<\/p>\n

Whereas the British inquest, known as Operation Paget, further examined the circumstances and returned with a verdict of \u2018unlawful killing\u2019 due to grossly negligent driving.<\/p>\n

The inquest also noted that none of the occupants were wearing seat belts, which contributed to the severity of the injuries.<\/p>\n

Diana and Fayed embarked on a brief, yet widely publicised romance before their death.<\/p>\n

It came after the Princess and Prince Charles finalised their divorce in 1997, after 15 years of marriage.<\/p>\n

Their separation was announced in December 1992, as\u00a0Queen Elizabeth II\u00a0urged the couple to formally divorce, which they did four years later.<\/p>\n
