King Charles\u00a0delighted his\u00a0White House\u00a0audience Tuesday night with a cheeky toast as he was hosted by President\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0and First Lady\u00a0Melania Trump\u00a0at a dazzling state dinner.<\/p>\n

The state dinner marked the first of the President\u2019s second term \u2013 and was to mark the country\u2019s 250th birthday.<\/p>\n

Both Trump and the King made comments about their countries\u2019 shared backstories, with Charles calling tonight\u2019s fete a \u2018very considerable improvement on the Boston Tea Party.\u2019<\/p>\n

The King also called attention to the President\u2019s \u2018readjustments\u2019 to the East Wing, which is no longer standing.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019m sorry to say that we British, of course, made our own small attempt at real estate redevelopment of the White House in 1814,\u2019 the King joked.<\/p>\n

He also noted how the President recently said, \u2018that if it were not for the United States, European countries would be speaking German.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Dare I say it, if it wasn\u2019t for us, you\u2019d be speaking French,\u2019 King Charles said, cracking up the President and his guests.<\/p>\n

King Charles then unveiled an extraordinarily personal gift for the President during his toast \u2013 a large gold bell that hung from the Conning Tower of HMS Trump, a Royal Navy submarine that fought in the Battle of the Pacific in World War II.<\/p>\n

\u2018May it stand as a testament to our nations\u2019 shared history and shining future,\u2019 the King said of the gift. \u2018And should you ever need to get hold of us, well, just give us a ring,\u2019 the monarch quipped.<\/p>\n

Despite some clear policy differences expressed by King Charles in his speech to Congress earlier Tuesday, Trump kicked off the dinner by complimenting it.<\/p>\n

\u2018He made a great speech,\u2019 Trump said during a brief welcome ceremony on the South Lawn. \u2018I was very jealous.\u2019<\/p>\n

Later, during his toast, the President explained what he meant.<\/p>\n
