After decades of battling Parkinson\u2019s disease, actor Michael J. Fox returned to acting with a role many dubbed powerful.<\/p>\n

Fox was first diagnosed with the disease at the age of 29. It was a period in his life when he was at the peak of his career, so the condition, which he knew little about at the time, stood on his way of acting, forcing him to semi-retire.<\/p>\n

It took young Michael a lot of time to accept the reality, but he eventually decided to make the\u00a0best out of his life<\/a>\u00a0despite the struggles the disease forced him to face.<\/p>\n

\u201cParkinson\u2019s sucks, but it\u2019s a great life, so thank you for it,\u201d the actor said back in 2023 during the showing of the nonfiction film featuring his life. \u201cPity is a benign form of abuse. I can feel sorry for myself, but I don\u2019t have time for that. There is stuff to be learned from this, so let\u2019s do that and move on,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy fans have basically given me my life. I wanted to give these people who have done so much for me my time and gratitude. It was great for me to hear from all of you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0People<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>he opened up about his health and his future, saying, \u201cI wake up and get the message of what the day is gonna be like, and I try to adjust to it.<\/p>\n

\u201cI keep getting new challenges physically, and I get through it,\u201d he continued. \u201cI roll around in a wheelchair a lot, and it took some getting used to.\u201d<\/p>\n

    When Fox\u2019s character asks Paul why he\u2019s there, Paul answers bluntly, \u201cParkinson\u2019s.\u201d Fox follows with a perfectly timed quip, joking that he\u2019s only there for a haircut, prompting laughter between them, according to\u00a0Variety<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n

    Fox\u2019s casting reunites him with series co-creator Bill Lawrence, following their earlier collaboration on the ABC sitcom\u00a0Spin City<\/em>, where Fox starred for four seasons before leaving in 2000 as early Parkinson\u2019s symptoms emerged.<\/p>\n

    He later made a notable return to Lawrence\u2019s work with a memorable two-episode guest arc on the medical comedy\u00a0Scrubs<\/em>\u00a0in 2004.<\/p>\n

    According to\u00a0Variety<\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>Fox personally called Bill Lawrence after finding out the show featured a character with Parkinson\u2019s disease, asking why he hadn\u2019t been asked to take part. Lawrence said he\u2019d love for him to join the series.<\/p>\n

    Lawrence himself later confirmed that Fox reached out after learning that Harrison Ford\u2019s character was dealing with Parkinson\u2019s \u2014 a storyline introduced in the first season.<\/p>\n

    This time, the actor credited acting comeback with extending his life amid his battle with Parkinson\u2019s.<\/p>\n

    In a recent interview with\u00a0The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>, Fox said the decision to act again has \u201creally prolonged my life and made my life interesting in a way that I didn\u2019t think it would be to this point.\u201d He is clear he is not fully retired. \u201cI\u2019m not retired from acting,\u201d he explained, \u201cbut if I didn\u2019t act again, it would be for a very good reason. I let Parkinson\u2019s make decisions for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
