Shane and Hannah Burcaw, who have long been open about their relationship and the misconceptions surrounding their life together, have now shared an update on their journey toward parenthood.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Shane and Hannah Burcaw\u2019s love story began after Hannah watched a documentary about Shane, who lives with spinal muscular atrophy \u2013 a genetic condition that affects nerve cells and severely limits mobility.<\/p>\n

She was struck by his personality and humor and decided to reach out. That was the beginning of their relationship.<\/p>\n

The couple married in September 2020, and just a few weeks ago, they announced that they are expecting their first child.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are beyond ecstatic to announce that we\u2019re expecting our first child this coming January!,\u201d the couple wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\u201cHannah is 20 weeks pregnant and although we\u2019ve been thoroughly enjoying this special time in privacy so far, we\u2019ve also missed sharing all the joy with you, and there\u2019s so much to share.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shane also took to Facebook to share an honest post about his feelings and fears surrounding becoming a father.<\/p>\n

He wrote: \u201cOne of my biggest worries about having children is the extent to which I\u2019ll be able to physically interact with them. I know and believe that parenting and love do not require physical ability, but I still grapple with those deep down anxieties at times, especially as our baby began kicking in Hannah\u2019s womb a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hoped, but didn\u2019t know for certain whether, I\u2019d be able to reach my arms far enough to feel the kicking myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

The couple has previously opened up on YouTube about their physical intimacy and the many questions they receive about their relationship. Some people have assumed that Hannah had signed up for a life of being both childless and celibate. However, that\u2019s far from the truth.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s far from true. We have a satisfying intimate life, and both of us are interested in having children together down the road,\u201d Hannah and Shane said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDisabled people can have s**,\u201d Shane once shared.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo much of parenting is not the physical stuff\u201d<\/h2>\n

When they started their YouTube channel, <\/a>Shane said that they couldn\u2019t have imagined how much people would question their love for each other.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re seen as asexual beings,\u201d Shane said. Hannah asked whether it was another misconception that his \u2018physical organs\u2019 don\u2019t work, which perhaps was behind people\u2019s imagination that something wasn\u2019t right between them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell that,\u201d Shane continued, \u201cand they see my attraction, my ability to attract a parter as non-existent.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hannah also added: \u201cAnd even if you did, it wouldn\u2019t work. There\u2019s no physical way \u2013 because we get a lot of like, \u2018there\u2019s no physical way that they could, so they\u2019re lying.\u2018\u201d<\/p>\n

Now, the couple is looking ahead as they prepare to become parents \u2014 and they have been turning to other interabled couples for insight into what life with a child can look like.<\/p>\n

In an interview with People, the couple revealed that they\u2019ve spoken with other interabled couples about their lives and experiences becoming parents.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne thing that has made me feel good is that they are reminding me that so much of parenting is not the physical stuff,\u201d Shane told the outlet.<\/p>\n
