Elvis Presley\u2019s Film Debut:\u00a0Love Me Tender<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0Love Me Tender<\/em>\u00a0(1956) was Elvis Presley\u2019s first movie, set after the Civil War. Originally titled\u00a0The Reno Brothers<\/em>, it was renamed to promote the song \u201cLove Me Tender,\u201d which became a huge hit. Elvis played Clint Reno, a character inspired by the real-life Reno Gang.<\/p>\n

At the premiere in New York, thousands of fans gathered, and audiences screamed so loudly that some of Elvis\u2019s lines couldn\u2019t be heard. Even though he was only third-billed, Elvis took the role seriously and memorized the entire script.<\/p>\n

He didn\u2019t plan to sing in the movie, but producers added musical scenes after casting him. The song \u201cLove Me Tender,\u201d adapted from the Civil War-era tune \u201cAura Lee,\u201d became a gold record before its release due to massive preorders.<\/p>\n
