Karl was aware Hubert\u2019s threats were real. Everyone in town was intimidated by him. He worked with suspicious people who were involved in nasty businesses.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you threatening me, sir?\u201d Karl asked, trembling.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo, it\u2019s not a threat, it\u2019s a promise,\u201d Huber said, and Karl knew he meant it. \u201cNow, you will leave this place right now without anyone noticing and ghost Jessica forever, OR ELSE!\u201d<\/p>\n

Hubert placed his index finger on Karl\u2019s chest, and Karl got scared for his life, so he left.<\/h2>\n

Running out of the room, he entered a taxi and headed to the airport.<\/p>\n

His heart broke by the thought of Jessica waiting for him at the church. But it was for her sake too. Her father was a dangerous man.<\/p>\n

Jessica walked down the aisle, and with every step she made, her nervousness grew because she couldn\u2019t spot Karl among the people gathered at the church to celebrate their wedding day.<\/p>\n

When a few hours passed by and she realized Karl wasn\u2019t coming, Jessica broke into tears. She cried and cried on her mother\u2019s shoulder, but nothing could comfort her.<\/p>\n

Over time, Olivia married and gave Jessica three grandchildren, making her life complete.<\/p>\n

But it was often that Jessica thought of Karl and their wedding day, especially while sitting at her porch and having her cup of tea.<\/h2>\n

Lost into her thoughts of past memories, she was disturbed by the voice of the mailman. \u201cMs. Pennington, there is mail for you,\u201d the mailman said with a smile on the face. \u201cOh, dear, you scared me,\u201d she said, almost dropping her tea.<\/p>\n

He then handed her an envelope with her name and address written on it. The name of the sender was too familiar to be able to ever forget; Karl Pittman.<\/p>\n

Jessica\u2019s hands started trembling. She could barely open the letter.<\/p>\n

\u201cDear Jessica,<\/p>\n

I hope you don\u2019t mind hearing from me. It\u2019s been 50 years, but I wanted to tell you that there has not been a day I haven\u2019t thought of you. It was never my intention to leave you, not ever, but your father threatened me. I shouldn\u2019t have listened, but I was too young and too afraid,\u201d the letter read.<\/p>\n

Jessica finally got the answer she was looking forward to for so many years. Karl\u2019s letter was the closure she needed badly.<\/p>\n

She did write back, and after some time, Karl called her. They talked for hours, recalling their young days and the wedding day that never happened.<\/p>\n

Eventually, Karl and Jessica met. Being 75, they were both aware they didn\u2019t have much time left, but they decided to make the most of the time that remained.<\/p>\n
