Ever since he appeared on the popular BBC program\u00a0Trading Spaces<\/em>\u00a0where he worked as a carpenter, Ty Pennington, the host of\u00a0Extreme Makeover: Home Edition<\/em>, stole many people\u2019s hearts. Extremely skillful and smoking hot, it didn\u2019t come as a surprise that Ty was soon offered to host one of the best shows designed to help people in need.<\/p>\n

    \u201cI didn\u2019t see family or a girlfriend for 10 years. I would come home to do laundry and go out again,\u201d he told The Atlanta Constitution in 2019.<\/p>\n

    \u201cWhen I saw people from the old TV show, they said \u2019My God! You look amazing!\u2019 I got some sleep! I would imagine I look a lot better than when I was on the show.\u201d<\/p>\n

    In fact, Ty didn\u2019t always want to be in the business of building things. On the contrary, he planned on being a graphic designer and worked in construction to pay the bills while he was in art school, but a near-fatal car accident he was involved in stopped on the way of his modeling career and he turned to carpentry.<\/p>\n

    \u201cOvernight my career seemed to explode\u2026 but alas, fate had other plans. Only one week later I would be in a horrible car accident,\u201d\u00a0he wrote in an\u00a0Instagram\u00a0<\/em>post. \u201cI hung up my one decent head shot, picked up my trusty tool bag and went back to construction and carpentry. 9 years later I would get a call to audition for\u00a0Trading Spaces<\/em>\u2026 and the rest is history.\u201d<\/p>\n

    He was first introduced to Hollywood as a set designer for the 1995 film\u00a0Leaving Las Vegas<\/em>, starring Nicholas Cage, but he only rose to fame with his role as a builder on\u00a0Trading Spaces<\/em>, the show that disrupted conventional concepts of home renovations.<\/p>\n

    After\u00a0Extreme Makeover: Home Edition<\/em>, which brought him two Prime Time Emmy Awards, was canceled back in 2011, Ty turned to other projects. He joined ABC\u2019s talk show\u00a0The Revolution<\/em>\u00a0and later on became a part of two cooking shows,\u00a0On The Menu\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0American Diner Revival<\/em>. He also opened a Los Angeles based design store. In 2018, Ty was part of the third season of the Deluxe Corporation\u2019s series\u00a0Small Business Revolution: Main Street<\/em>, and he also did some renovations for\u00a0Trading Spaces<\/em>. Most recently, he was seen hosting\u00a0Battle on the Beach<\/em>.<\/p>\n

    When\u00a0Extreme Makeover: Home Edition<\/em>\u00a0aired again recently, he wasn\u2019t offered to get back on the show, but he said there are no hard feelings or any bad blood.<\/p>\n

    Currently, Ty appears as a mentor and design expert on HGTV\u2019s\u00a0Battle on the Beach<\/em>, and as a host on the show\u00a0Rock the Block<\/em>.<\/p>\n

    Ty married 33-year-old social media manager Kellee Merrell in November 2021. He proposed to her with a beautiful tea-drop-shaped diamond ring and shared the great news on Instagram by posting a photo with the caption \u201cIt\u2019s the \u2018yes\u2019 for me\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

    They have known in each other for a long time but only started dating last year after they stumbled upon each other.<\/h2>\n

    \u201cI have admired Kellee from afar for years. She\u2019s a beautiful person inside and out,\u201d Ty told\u00a0People.<\/p>\n

    \u201cLuckily our paths finally crossed at the right time. It\u2019s one of those things where you just feel happy being around a person. I never thought I would get married, but she changed that. Glad I waited for the one.\u201d<\/p>\n

    Last year, the host posted a fun video of him from the beach with his shorts spiked up to his stomach and added that \u2018he was pushing his stomach out\u2019 after some fans noted tha he no longer has six-pack.<\/p>\n

    He then decided to further address the criticism and wrote a lengthy Instagram post titled\u00a0Thoughts on Aging\u00a0<\/em>in which he wrote: \u201cWhat was an honest moment of just trying to make my wife laugh, was then picked apart by strangers- with a lot of views, comes a lot of hate! Comments like \u201cdisgusting,\u201d \u201cgross,\u201d \u201comg he\u2019s so old now,\u201d \u201cgrandpa,\u201d \u201che got fat\u2026And I wondered, if I was still young and fit, would I be getting the same comments?\u201d He continued, \u201cThere has been such a force behind accepting all shapes and sizes and aging in the female community which is AWESOME (keep it coming) but maybe let\u2019s give that same grace to men?\u201d<\/p>\n

I have NEVER worked out harder in my life-7 days a week (this over 50 sh*t is no joke ). \u201cWhat happened\u201d is, it\u2019s been 22 YEARS since I made my television debut! \u201c he wrote. \u201cNo, I don\u2019t have a six pack anymore or a luscious head of hair (with frosted tips ) but what I do have is wisdom, empathy, life lessons and at 57 years old, I\u2019ve TRULY never been happier! Anyways, all this to say: I\u2019m human and I have feelings. Yes, I am older but I think it\u2019s pretty cool.\u201d<\/p>\n
