They crawl from hair to hair and rarely spread through hats or brushes, as lice weaken quickly once off the scalp.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How to Detect Lice:<\/strong><br \/>\nItching usually begins 4\u20136 weeks after infection. Lice are 1\u20133mm long, translucent, and can be brown, black, gray, or red. Use a lice comb to check the scalp\u2014lice will fall into the sink.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lice Eggs (Nits):<\/strong><br \/>\nOften easier to spot than lice. Eggs near the scalp are dark if alive and light if hatched.
