The woman doesn\u2019t have any natural physical deformities. Instead, she\u2019s covered head to toe in \u201cprison style\u201d tattoos, and despite her inability to find work, along with the verbal attacks that strike her every time she steps out of her home, she refuses to stop getting more ink, saying she\u2019s an addict.<\/p>\n

Melissa Sloan is a 46-year-old woman from Wales, who shows no regret over her toxic 26-year relationship with a tattoo gun. She has been getting inked since she was 20 years old. Sloan now accepts that she\u2019s shunned by society, and though she understands the more she gets, the more difficult life becomes, she still refuses to stop.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s like when you have a [cigarette] or a drink, you get addicted. I can\u2019t stop it now, it\u2019s addictive, for me anyway. I just can\u2019t stop it,\u201d said Sloan, adding that since tattoo parlors started denying her, because she\u2019s \u201cbeyond help,\u201d she got her own kit. She continued, \u201cI carry the [tattoo] gun around with me in the boot, I\u2019ll get one in the car or anywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n

Though Sloan can\u2019t find a job\u2013her body and face are now covered in somewhat sloppy ink\u2013she continues to have her boyfriend give her three \u201ctattoos prison style\u201d each week. She has more than 800 tattoos.<\/p>\n

Sloan explained that years ago, she worked as a toilet cleaner, but today, she\u2019s turned away from similar roles.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t get a job. They won\u2019t have me. I applied for a job cleaning toilets where I live and they won\u2019t have me because of my tattoos\u2026People have said I have never had a job in my life, I have had one once and it didn\u2019t last long.\u201d She continued, \u201cBut, if someone offered me a job tomorrow, I would go and work\u2013I would take that offer.\u201d<\/p>\n

On top of her inability to find work, Sloan said she\u2019s treated like an outcast and that every time she steps out of her door, she\u2019s verbally attacked and mocked, people pointing and staring.<\/p>\n

\u201cWorse, the more I have the more they think I\u2019m a freak. They jump out of the way and I think \u2018what are you doing that for?\u2019 It\u2019s horrible,\u201d she said. \u201cI expected this in life, I can\u2019t fit in with people as I like to be me and I\u2019m always going to be myself.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also, Sloan claims she\u2019s been barred from local bars and banned from school events which her two young children, aged eight and 10, might even be involved in. Even that doesn\u2019t stop her.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe kids say, \u2018mum they\u2019re looking at you\u2019 and I say \u2018take no notice of them,\u2019\u201d said the body art enthusiast, adding that her kids pick up on negative attitudes towards her. \u201cThey say my children will run away when they\u2019re older, that\u2019s heartbreaking.\u201d<\/p>\n

Influencing her children and encouraging them to use her as a role model, Sloan\u2019s kids already have a fondness for body art.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey got some on their arms last night, they\u2019ve got school so they will have to take them off,\u201d Sloan said, about allowing the children to have temporary tattoos, with promises for permanent art in the future. \u201cI tell them they\u2019ll have better ones when they are older.\u201d<\/p>\n

Before she got her tattoos, she was an average-looking woman. She shared images of her pre-tattoo face on her Instagram account. She looks barely recognizable now, if you knew her from back then!<\/p>\n

There is nothing wrong with tasteful body art, but some people can go too far. Though it\u2019s never right to judge, we can understand why employers shy away from allowing her to represent their brand. We hope this woman\u2019s kids learn from their mother\u2019s mistakes so they too don\u2019t feel like outcasts in the future.<\/p>\n
