\u201cThere were about 10 doctors in the room, and honestly, there wasn\u2019t a single dry eye,\u201d Brooks remembered.<\/p>\n

Just hours after reuniting with Bowie and Nikki, Mr. Spencer passed away.<\/p>\n

Looking back on that moment, Brooks feels that the dogs sensed the gravity of the visit.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that seeing him like that, [Bowie and Nikki] realized they needed to move forward now, and they would find a new, loving home.\u201d<\/p>\n

With no family or caregivers available to take the dogs, Mr. Spencer made Brooks promise him before he died \u2014 that Bowie and Nikki would remain together and eventually find a loving forever home.<\/p>\n
