He was born at Beyer Hospital in Ypsilanti, Michigan \u2014 his mother was employed at General Motors, while his father worked as a car salesman. The actor has mentioned that his mother named him after the affluent playboy Diogenes Alejandro Xenos from Harold Robbins\u2019 novel The Adventurers.<\/p>\n

Sadly, his early life was marked by turmoil. His parents divorced when he was merely three years old. A few years later, he experienced something truly horrific when he was sexually abused.<\/p>\n

He kept this secret for over 12 years before finally confiding in someone \u2014 a heavy burden to carry, especially for a child.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor all that time, I thought \u2026 \u2018It\u2019s my fault,\u2019 as clich\u00e9 as that sounds, I believed I was gay, and I must have brought this upon myself because I\u2019m secretly gay.\u2019 I had all these crazy thoughts for 11 or 12 years,\u201d he shared in 2016.<\/p>\n

He also thinks it contributed to his later struggles with addiction. This connection was supported by a statistic his mother \u2014 a court-appointed advocate for foster children \u2014 came across in her work.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019ve been molested, you only have a 20 percent chance of not being an addict,\u201d the actor remarked. \u201cAnd I thought, \u2018Hm, interesting,\u2019 because I just like to have a f\u2014\u2013g great time. But when you hear a statistic like that, I\u2019m like, \u2018Oh no, I was destined to be an addict, period.\u2019<\/p>\n

Despite the shadows that loomed over his career, the actor had role models in his life\u2014individuals who worked diligently and aimed to stay on the right track. One of the most significant? His own mother.
