Sheinelle Jones Receives Emotional Surprise from Her Children on Today Show Following Husband’s Passing…

Sheinelle Jones experienced a heartfelt moment on Tuesday, April 14, when her three children surprised her live on air.

After promoting her new book Through Mom’s Eyes during the morning segments of the Today show and its third hour, Jones continued discussing the project on Today with Jenna & Sheinelle. She revealed that the book is dedicated to her children—her 16-year-old son Kayin and 13-year-old twins, Clara and Uche Jr.—whom she shares with her late husband, Uche Ojeh.

Her co-host, Jenna Bush Hager, introduced a special moment by saying the celebration wouldn’t be complete without the three people to whom the book was dedicated. Moments later, Jones’ children walked onto the set, presenting her with a bouquet of white lilies.

Overcome with emotion, Jones listened as her son Kayin expressed his pride, recalling the long journey behind the book, including challenges they faced as a family. He shared how happy he was to see her accomplishment after everything they had been through.

Uche Jr. also praised his mother, highlighting her kindness and the positive impact she has on those around her. Meanwhile, Clara shared that she had already read the book and genuinely enjoyed it, even recalling reading it on a plane when she had nothing else to do.

Jones, 47, had been working on Through Mom’s Eyes while her husband was battling glioblastoma. She postponed its release to spend time with him during his illness. Ojeh passed away in May 2025 at the age of 45. Jones returned to the Today show in September 2025 and officially celebrated the book’s release on April 14.

The book features insights and lessons from the mothers of well-known figures like Matthew McConaughey and Steph Curry.

Earlier in the show, co-anchor Hoda Kotb mentioned that the book began with a promise Jones made to her husband—to continue writing. Jones confirmed she had kept that promise, explaining that although she delayed the project to be with him, she now felt ready to share her experiences.

She added that the book reflects themes that resonate not only with her but also with her colleagues, including Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, Jenna Bush Hager, Al Roker, and Carson Daly. The key messages she emphasized were resilience, faith, and sisterhood.

Jones spoke about wanting to honor the strength of mothers, noting that despite life’s challenges—including her own personal hardships—motherhood continues, and children rely on that strength.

Savannah Guthrie added that while the book contains meaningful life lessons, it also includes lighthearted and humorous moments, something essential for navigating motherhood.

Before the release, Jones had spoken about how difficult it was to continue writing while her husband was seriously ill. She shared that although the book was originally planned for release the previous spring, she postponed it for a year after his passing to focus on her family. Still, she remained committed to fulfilling the promise she made to him and completing the book.
