After the passing of James Van Der Beek, his wife, Kimberly Van Der Beek, and their six children are reportedly struggling financially and facing an uncertain path forward.
A GoFundMe page set up by Kimberly’s friends explains that the expenses related to James’s medical treatment and his long battle with cancer have exhausted the family’s savings. As a result, they are now working hard to remain in their home and provide stability for their children, particularly ensuring they can continue their education during this challenging period. The fundraiser notes that support from loved ones and the broader community could significantly help the family as they move ahead.
The funds raised will go toward basic living costs, household bills, and the children’s schooling. The page emphasizes that contributions of any amount can help Kimberly and her children regain a sense of security and hope while rebuilding their lives.
James and Kimberly shared six children together: daughters Olivia (15), Annabel (12), Emilia (9½), and Gwendolyn (7), as well as sons Joshua (13) and Jeremiah (4).
On Wednesday, Feb. 11, James passed away due to complications from stage 3 colorectal cancer. Kimberly shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram, writing that he died peacefully. She described her husband as having faced his final days with bravery, faith, and grace, and asked for privacy as the family mourns the loss of a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend.
James had first been diagnosed in August 2023 and publicly revealed his illness in November 2024. At the time, he shared that he had been privately managing his colorectal cancer diagnosis and pursuing treatment with the strong support of his family. Despite the seriousness of the illness, he expressed optimism and said he was feeling well.
In a previous interview in May 2023, James spoke about how raising six children was a humbling experience. He explained that parenting constantly brings unexpected challenges and requires emotional balance during chaotic moments. However, he also shared that his greatest joy came from watching his children care for one another. Seeing them step up to help — especially when they looked after their youngest brother — made him feel that, despite any mistakes, he was doing something right as a father.
