Donald Trump Responds After Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s Arrest

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has commented publicly following reports that Prince Andrew, Duke of York — formally known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor — was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

The 66-year-old was taken into custody at Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate on Thursday morning, coinciding with his birthday. He was later released the same day after approximately 11 hours in custody. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing.

Police Statement and Ongoing Investigation

Thames Valley Police issued a statement explaining that officers are assessing a complaint related to the alleged sharing of confidential information with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Police emphasized that the case is active and subject to legal protections, urging caution in public commentary to avoid prejudicing proceedings. Officials reiterated that investigations must follow due process and that further updates will be provided when appropriate.

Andrew has consistently denied wrongdoing in connection with previous allegations.

Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright stated that authorities had opened a formal inquiry following a thorough review of the complaint and stressed the importance of maintaining the integrity of the investigation.

Trump’s Comments Aboard Air Force One

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One shortly after the news broke, Donald Trump described the situation as “very sad” and “bad for the royal family.”

“I think it’s a shame. I think it’s very, very sad,” Trump said, adding that the matter was unfortunate for Andrew’s relatives.

He also referenced King Charles III, noting that the British monarch is expected to visit the United States in the near future and describing him as “a fantastic man.”

When asked whether additional arrests could occur in cases connected to Epstein, Trump responded that he had previously been cleared of wrongdoing, stating he had been “totally exonerated.”

Statement From King Charles III

Buckingham Palace released remarks from King Charles III expressing concern over the development while emphasizing respect for the legal process.

The King stated that the law must be allowed to take its course and affirmed the royal family’s full cooperation with authorities. He declined to comment further, citing the active nature of the investigation.

Legal Process Moving Forward

Under U.K. law, an arrest does not constitute a finding of guilt. Authorities may question individuals and review evidence before determining whether formal charges are warranted.

The situation has drawn significant international attention due to Andrew’s royal status and the broader public interest in cases connected to Jeffrey Epstein.

As the investigation continues, both U.K. officials and international observers are closely monitoring developments.
