
Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford share a unique bond. On Sunday, as Redford was celebrated at the Academy Awards, Streisand gave a heartfelt tribute to her late friend. Additionally, she disclosed the contents of her last note to Robert.
The iconic actor Robert Redford passed away in September of last year at the age of 89. During the 2026 Academy Awards on Sunday, he was honored alongside many others who had also passed away last year through a touching performance.
In the Memoriam segment at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, Barbra Streisand took to the stage in a black gown and reminisced about some cherished moments with Robert Redford. For instance, she recalled how the Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid star would often tease her.
“I miss him now more than ever, especially how he loved to tease me,” Barbra Streisand expressed. “He’d call me, ‘Babs.’ And I’d respond, ‘Bob, do I really look like a Babs?’ But the way he said it always made me laugh.

She reminisced, “Many years later, we were on the phone discussing the usual topics—politics, art, and Modigliani, our favorite. As we were about to hang up, he said, ‘Babs, I love you dearly, and I always will.’”
That conversation left a lasting impact on Streisand. It was significant when she penned her last note to him before his passing.
“I concluded with, ‘I love you too,’ and I signed it ‘Babs.,’” she remembered.
Robert Redford was cherished by many. Barbra Streisand added that he was “thoughtful and bold,” referring to him as an “intellectual cowboy who forged his own path.”
Before exiting the stage, she delivered a moving performance of the title song from The Way We Were. Both Redford and Streisand starred in the film of the same name, and the song won the Oscar for Best Original Song in 1974.
