Rex, a former Syracuse University quarterback, played in 30 games from 2017 to 2020. In 2018, he was diagnosed with testicular cancer but returned to play six games that fall, earning the school’s Jim DaRin Courage Award.
He was recently engaged to fiancée Savanna Morgan, who shared their engagement on Instagram less than a month ago. In her post announcing his death, she wrote about the depth of their six-year relationship and the love they shared.
Rex’s parents are both well-known from their Survivor appearances: Brad played in the NFL before competing on Survivor: Blood vs. Water and Survivor: Game Changers, while Monica competed on Survivor: Blood vs. Water and Survivor: One World.
The school expressed condolences, saying, “Our hearts are with the Culpepper family & all those who loved him.”
