Firefighter’s funeral postponed as grieving wife goes into labor with their second child

A devastating tragedy has struck a family in Chicago. Yet, amidst the grief, a new life has also come into the world. 32-year-old firefighter Michael Altman lost his life in a fire, but the funeral has been delayed. Why? His widow has given birth to their second child.

Firefighter Michael Altman, 32, tragically passed away after suffering severe injuries while battling a fire earlier this month. He fell through a collapsing floor during a perilous rescue operation and later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.

“While working to put out the fire, Firefighter EMT Altman suffered critical injuries and was taken to Stroger Hospital where he ultimately passed away from his injuries,” CFD Commissioner Annette Nance-Holt stated during a press conference on March 17.

Michael was more than just a firefighter. He hailed from a proud lineage of heroes, being the fourth generation in his family to serve. He was celebrated for his courage and generous spirit.

Michael Altman is survived by his wife, Nora Altman, and their young son. At the time of his passing, the family was also anticipating the arrival of their second child. However, then something unexpected occurred.

Firefighter’s funeral has been postponed as his grieving wife goes into labor with their second child.

Michael’s funeral was set for March 27, with family, friends, and colleagues getting ready to bid their final farewell. However, just before the ceremony, his wife went into labor, necessitating the postponement of the funeral.

In a statement to People Magazine, the Chicago Fire Department announced that the funeral service for firefighter/EMT Michael Altman, which was originally scheduled for Friday morning, March 27, has been rescheduled for a later date.

“Mrs. Altman is in labor,” the department stated, referring to the firefighter’s widow, Nora Altman.

While the family is enduring an unimaginable loss, they are also celebrating the arrival of a new baby into their lives. Nora welcomed a baby girl, Evelyn Rose.

People throughout the city have expressed their support, honoring Michael’s bravery and sacrifice. Many gathered to pay their respects, remembering a man who dedicated his life to protecting others.

Simultaneously, authorities have reported that a suspect has been arrested and charged in connection with the fire that resulted in his death. Now, the family is faced with a challenging journey ahead, mourning a devoted husband and father while also celebrating the birth of a new life. A sorrowful farewell – yet a beautiful welcome.
