If there’s one thing I truly admire, it’s when individuals go above and beyond the expectations of their roles to assist others.
Police officers, firefighters, and medical personnel all contribute in unique ways, and they each perform their duties exceptionally well.
However, some individuals truly stand out by going the extra mile, doing more than what is required to lift someone’s spirits.
A wonderful example of this is James Hurst, a police officer from Savannah, Georgia, who recently went out of his way to comfort a lost toddler. A touching photo of his actions has since gone viral.
In May 2016, a 16-month-old boy was discovered wandering the streets of Savannah, Georgia, without any supervision.
The police were alerted, and they took him to a hospital to ensure his well-being, as reported by WSAV 3 News.
During the medical check-up, the little boy became frightened and distressed, but Officer James Hurst remained by his side. He picked the toddler up and provided comfort.
“I just felt that this child needed someone to be there for him. It was purely instinct; it was humanity. The hospital staff was doing a wonderful job caring for him [but] he was sobbing and crying. I held him, and within minutes, he was asleep on my chest,” James Hurst shared with KTLA 5.

The special moment was recorded on camera and subsequently shared on the police department’s Facebook page. This week alone, more than 10,000 individuals have liked the photo.
Numerous news outlets have covered the story, and many have commended the officer’s actions. Hurst himself mentioned that he was merely fulfilling his duties.
People from all around were moved by officer Hurst’s compassion, yet Hurst feels he was simply doing what was right and doesn’t consider his actions to be anything extraordinary!
“This is what we do every day, not just me, but all 600 officers in this department,” he shared with WSAV 3.

“Throughout the many times I’ve encountered Officer Hurst on the streets, he has consistently exceeded his responsibilities. If you ever have the chance to meet him, please take a moment to shake his hand; he truly is a remarkable person,” someone mentioned, as reported by KTLA.
The toddler has been placed in the care of social services and is safe, as well as in good health, according to the police.

Although this story is a bit dated, I felt compelled to share it with you once more. It highlights a genuine hero who went the extra mile to comfort a child in a frightening moment – we definitely need more tales like this in our Facebook feeds!
If this photo touched your heart, please share it to express your gratitude for Officer Hurst and all the other officers who exceed their responsibilities.
