Robert Carradine, Beloved Actor, Dies at 71

Hollywood mourns the loss of Robert Carradine, the talented actor beloved for Revenge of the Nerds and Lizzie McGuire, who passed away at 71.

Carradine’s family shared with Deadline that he had battled bipolar disorder for nearly two decades—a struggle they say ultimately contributed to his death. “We hope his journey can shine a light and encourage addressing the stigma that attaches to mental illness,” they said.

A member of one of Hollywood’s most iconic acting families, Carradine was the son of legendary John Carradine and the brother of David, Keith, and Christopher Carradine. While he built a steady career over decades, younger audiences especially remember him as the warm, caring dad to Hilary Duff’s character on Disney Channel’s Lizzie McGuire.

Duff paid tribute on Instagram, writing: “This one hurts. It’s really hard to face this reality about an old friend. There was so much warmth in the McGuire family, and I always felt so cared for by my on-screen parents. I’ll be forever grateful for that. My heart aches for him, his family, and everyone who loved him.”
