Michelle Obama’s recent photo, showcasing her with stunningly long goddess braids, has created quite a buzz online in a positive way.
Michelle was featured in the latest edition of Women by renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz. The images portray a relaxed-looking Michelle Obama in a style that is quite different from what people are used to seeing her in.
As soon as the photos were shared, comments started pouring in. In the image, the former First Lady is seen with minimal makeup, wearing an open-collar t-shirt and jeans. Her hair is styled in long braids, a look that the public hasn’t seen her sport before.

Since leaving the White House, Michelle Obama remains very much in the public eye. In a conversation with People, she explained that she has been opting for braids more frequently due to their practicality. She mentioned, “When I’m out of the public eye, I’m swimming, playing tennis, and working out; I like to stay active. I don’t want to have a stylist with me.”
The previous First Lady has created a brand around her name through the books she has authored, along with the podcasts and interviews she has participated in.
She is also the mother of two daughters that she shares with her husband, Barack Obama. Her daughters, Malia Obama and Sasha Obama, have both since become independent and moved out.
The couple are now enjoying their empty nest, and Michelle has shared her thoughts on this change, stating that date nights look different now, “We’ve been married 32, 33 (years). When we’re both happy about date night, we’re at home. We are not getting dressed. We just have a nice dinner, candles lit, music, we talk.”
She also discussed her decision to wear longer braids, explaining, “It’s freedom. Braids allow me to get them done, and then that’s one less thing that I have to think about.”
“I recognized the importance of wearing braids during our portrait unveiling. I aimed to convey a message and contribute to the conversation about Black women in positions of power, saying, ‘This, too, is an appropriate and beautiful way to wear your hair,’” the former First Lady remarked.
